An Update on Weathered

2023 was a fantastic year

I’ve been writing on and off Medium for the past few years and it’s been a self-discovery gold mine. I would start writing on topics that concerned or interested me until they led to other subjects that held my focus. Writing is a means to an end for me, a way for me to understand myself in this infinite universe and share something of value with my readers.

My journey led to an amazing side project that reconnected me with something very important to me in my younger years, environmentalism. Coupled with my experience in Civil Engineering, I was able to finally write from a place of experience and reflection. What I did well in the past and what I could do better in the future.

That was the seed that eventually became Weathered, on Medium first and now on the Weathered. pub domain. Granted, my first posts here in 2022 were mostly rants but I had so much anger pent up over the decades that it rolled off the tongue.

Once I excised all that anger, my posting frequency slowed down, which made sense. Instead of raging, I started to look around myself and think about where I could do the most good in my life. I was formulating my raison d’être and I think I’ve found it.

Weathered Publication is growing, albeit slowly. That’s ok, all good things need a strong foundation and sometimes going slow is the right way. I’ll be working hard in 2024 to try to attract more diverse voices to the publication because I believe that wisdom isn’t concentrated in the hands of old white men.

One of those diverse voices that’s come to Weathered is one of my favorite all-time writers Y.L. Wolfe. She has been contributing to the site when she can and I’m deeply honored that she is.

Her deeply introspective articles have been some of the most popular ones on the site. You can check out her growing body of work here.

Welcome to a world in which our carbon legacies matter as much as our family legacies

Weathered is also attracting a diverse group of readers who comment and share our articles, and that makes me happy. It makes me happy because the work is resonating with them and inspires me to work harder for them.

Ultimately this small publication is growing into something I never expected, a fledgling community of wonderful people united against a common problem: the destruction of the only known livable world, Earth.

Yes, we have many more problems that stem from our overpopulation and resource hungriness, but that’s for future articles. In the meantime, I wanted to say Thank You to all the Medium readers who read my articles here and left thoughtful comments. You made 2023 a great year and I want to wish you all a Happy New Year.

Let’s don our armor and meditate on the good fight that awaits us. Together we can change the narrative, win the hearts and minds of our society, and build a better world.

See you in 2024.
