Project 2025-The Policies That Will Bring Climate Chaos to Your Backyard
How dismantling climate science and environmental justice accelerates disaster for all of us

I’ve been watching the horror unfolding in Los Angeles County. The wildfires have destroyed everything at such a rapid pace that it’s just unbelievable. If you think that’s bad, wait until the same thing happens in your county and your state. If you think you’re safe because you live away from those “Godless Liberal Heathen Californians,” you are sorely mistaken.
The odds of this happening in your neighborhood soon — just like mine — are rising quickly.
Why do I think that? Simple: the people who voted for Trump and support the Project 2025 plan have effectively put targets on your neighborhoods, regardless of whether you’re a MAGA supporter or not.
What Is Project 2025?
When fully implemented, Project 2025 will strip away crucial climate research programs. For example, it recommends issuing an executive order to reshape the U.S. Global Change Research Program (USGCRP) and related climate change research initiatives.
It also suggests downsizing the Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR) within NOAA, labeling it as a source of “climate alarmism” and advocating for the disbandment of much of its climate-change research. This isn’t hyperbole. The Union of Concerned Scientists has raised the alarm about this.
Weakening Environmental Regulations
Project 2025 plans to weaken existing environmental regulations. It proposes undermining key portions of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), which ensures public participation in environmental decision-making.
Specifically, it calls for banning the use of cumulative impact analysis, potentially limiting comprehensive assessments of pollution in vulnerable communities, as highlighted by Youth for Climate 350.
Promoting Fossil Fuels Over Clean Energy
The plan also prioritizes fossil fuels. Project 2025’s energy policy emphasizes more fossil fuel development, supports repealing legislation like the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which funds clean energy initiatives, and calls for increased oil and natural gas production.
The Union of Concerned Scientists underscores how these measures could exacerbate climate change.
Eliminating Environmental Justice Offices
Perhaps the most egregious aspect of Project 2025 is its proposal to eliminate the Environmental Justice Offices. These offices within the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) address environmental issues affecting marginalized communities. By shutting them down, Project 2025 threatens to deepen existing inequalities.
Ignoring Climate Change in National Security
In true Trump fashion, Project 2025’s policies also aim to remove climate change considerations from national security agendas. Instead, it encourages allied nations to rely on fossil fuels, undermining global climate action. More details about this evil cab be found on Wikipedia.
All I can say to this is, WHAT. THE. FUCK. Any sane person should be aghast.
I came to a sad conclusion this week, after reading posts in my local Facebook groups. Someone I know shared a story about President Carter’s installation of solar panels on the White House, which President Reagan quickly removed. When she warned against repeating past mistakes under Trump, the responses were staggering.
Ignorant comments flooded in, dismissing global warming as a myth and claiming that wildfires, hurricanes, and storms are just part of natural climate cycles.
It dawned on me: we are doomed. Whether this happens under Trump or some future authoritarian leader, the future is clear. Without immediate action to counter these regressive policies, we’re sealing our fate — not just in California, but in every backyard across America.
